Magic Choral Trick #49 Toes Down Through Soles of Shoes (Toe Press)

Pesky Energy Leaks at the ends of phrases still causing you grief? Try this one.

During the last few notes of every phrase, press the toes downwards as if you expected them to be able to push through the soles of your shoes. Relax them again when you take the breath for the next phrase.

This technique seems to appeal more to guys than Cloudlifting.

Some choirs will embrace any technique you throw at them – but even the most conservative ones will probably be ok with the Toe Press.

I find that whatever physical technique I use, the result is always much better than if I simply ask the choir to be sure to support the sound right to the end of the phrase.

The Toe Press is easy, clear and produces great results.

About janetkidd

I've been waving my arms in front of choirs now for more than 35 years - and these are descriptions of all the very best things I've learned. I direct a Women's Competitive Barbershop Chorus, a Men's Competitive Barbershop Chorus, a Med School choir, and for a few weeks each year - Big Choir (about 100 voices) - which performs at an annual fundraising concert. Hope at least some of these Choral Magic Tricks will be useful to you - and thanks for reading. Janet
